  • There are a few clear signs. If your board still has the old ceramic rewireable fuses, has no safety switches, trips often for no obvious reason, or has no spare space to add a circuit, it is well worth an upgrade. Older boards were never built for the load a modern home puts on them, let alone solar, air conditioning or an EV charger.

    If any of that sounds like your board, we can take a look and tell you honestly whether it needs doing now or can wait.

  • It is an important difference. A fuse or circuit breaker only protects the wiring from overload and short circuits, so it stops the cables overheating. A safety switch, or RCD, does something far more important for you: it monitors the flow of electricity and cuts the power in a fraction of a second if it detects current leaking to earth, such as through a person getting a shock.

    That is what actually protects your family, and it is exactly what old fuse-only boards do not have.

  • Most home switchboard upgrades are done in a single day. The power needs to be off for part of that while we transfer everything across to the new board, and we will let you know the likely timing before we start so you can plan around it.

    If your home has a lot of circuits, or we find wiring that needs attention once the board is open, it can take a little longer, but we will keep you informed rather than spring surprises on you.

  • Yes. All switchboard work is tested on completion and we issue an electrical compliance certificate for it. That is your proof the work was done to standard, which matters for your insurance and is handy to have on file if you ever sell the home.

    It is also peace of mind that the board protecting your house has actually been checked and signed off, not just thrown together.

  • Yes, and it is well worth doing while the board is being upgraded anyway. We can size the new board with spare capacity and room for extra circuits, so when you decide to add solar, a battery or an EV charger down the track, it is a quick add-on rather than another full board upgrade.

    Even if those are years away, building in the headroom now saves you money and disruption later.
